Dale - a four day 1500 mile trip on almost any bike should be a piece of cake. Everyones personal likes and dislikes lead to choices one makes in terms of your bike. You can choose a general all around bike or a specialized one. Special little things are offered for most to fit the bill to make one out of the other to get by in a pinch instead of spending thousands to get something you only later realize was not what the emotion of the moment deemed it to be. You mentioned you thought your back may not be able to take it -- have you ever considered a riders back rest. Key in the word pro-tac and see what comes up. I think for just over a C-note this Savage accessory may be just what you need for comfortable back at the end of the ride. Don't give up on the Savage, it's too good a bike.
